Everyone already knows how important it is to have photographs of their children.
You already know that you should really be in the images with your kids.
We all take images with your smart phones to keep those memories of our children.
What do you do after you have taken those pictures. Post them on Facebook so others can share in the same joy that you did when you took them?! Or maybe you simply share them in a message with your husband, mother, friend?!
I do this exact thing! Just over a year ago I had my 3rd child, a daughter. She will be our last, and that means I take as many pictures of her as I can to keep those memories of her as a baby. 7 Months ago I had the privilege of being a part of a great movement called #WomenInTheWild. A wonderful and talented photographer who is currently in Germany traveled to Maryland as part of this movement to take pictures of women breastfeeding their babies in hopes that this would help fight the stigma and sexualization of breastfeeding in modern society. The movement's aim is to show the world that breastfeeding is a beautiful thing. No matter the age of the baby, color of your skin, or size of the mom, breastfeeding can be for everyone. Needless to say I was thrilled to have been a part of this. She gave me a wonderful image to have and look back on, and I will always remember this time with her. I honestly did not expect to make it a year. I was glad that I had made it 6 months.
We are now over a year breastfeeding. Realizing the importance of remembering this milestone and capturing every part of it has become more of a pull. I knew that I wouldn't be able to take pictures of this myself, as the logistics needed to capture such an image would be nearly impossible. So what is a photographer and a mom to do? Turn to another photographer for help! I contacted a friend who mainly photographs her children to help me out. I knew that if she at least got a clear image i could then edit it and make it work. She was able to capture breathtaking and beautiful images above and beyond what i could have expected. Chrissy of Chrissy Sandifer Photography did an amazing job of capturing these memories for me and I am so very thankful to her. I know the importance of having images, printing them, sharing them, and being able to enjoy them for years to come.
Do you have a milestone or memory that you would love to be able to capture and have for years and years, and that your children can share with their children?
Do you know someone that does documentary or lifestyle photography? If yes, contact them to help you capture those memories, even if you are a photographer. I urge you to have someone help you so you can be in the images. This also allows you to worry less and enjoy the moment with everyone else!
