With a special needs child we see things a little differently.

My son loves tattoos and stamps. For most kids they love putting stickers and temporary tattoos on their bodies. Its fun to see how many you can put on at once, and it feels great when you put them on your belly.

However if you have a child who has behavioral issues, or special needs, tattoos and stamps become something else. My son was 4.5 years old before he was potty trained. He could hold it, but refused to go. He didn't care that he would have a wet diaper or clothes.

We started seeing  behavioral therapist, and he is now potty trained. He was still not willing to listen and do as he was told, but after some encouragement and rewards we have  a system that has helped him stay dry at night and listen!

You see those tattoos on his legs mean the number of days he has stayed dry all night and didn't wet the bed. They also mean that he took time away from playing to poop in the Toilet. (yes TMI, but with kids you never know ;) ) Those stamps on his hand are the number of times today he has listened first time when asked to do something. If he can get 5 stamps, then he gets to pick a prize form the treasure box at bedtime. As you can see today he has reach his goal.

He is one very happy and proud boy to be showing you that he has listened and that he has stayed dry. Of the last 7 days, 6 of them he woke up dry, or pooped in the potty.
