31 Days of Breastfeeding Journeys - Day 13

31 Days of Breastfeeding Journeys | Day 13 | World Breastfeeding Week 2016

"Breastfeeding was always something I planned on doing. I watched my mom breastfeed my younger siblings and heard stories of her breastfeeding me. I knew all of the health benefits to mom and baby.

What I didn't know was how hard I was going to fall in love with breastfeeding my daughter Addison. The closeness it has brought us is a feeling I didn't even know was possible and I wouldn't trade a single middle of the night feeding or little baby nail dagger for any of it. Breastfeeding has also created a sense of freedom and empowerment that I did not know I had inside of me.

The first time I nursed Addison in public I was nervous of how I would feel and if I was brave enough, but the moment I looked at her sweet face and saw the calm and fulfillment I was providing her, I felt so proud of both of us and knew we were in it together for the long run.

Five months later we are still going strong, she still eats nonstop and I have breastfed in every conceivable place I can think of. I love my sisterhood of breastfeeding mamas I have met on this journey, I love my family for accepting the fact that my boob will always be out, I love my husband for his endless support and always cutting my meals up for me and I love my daughter for sharing this bond with me and giving me this ultimate sense of purpose and joy in life." ~Janice
