I have really enjoyed photographing in Germany. There is always something new you find or discover every time you go out. This day was no different. I have photographed this area many times before, as it is currently one of my favorite locations to do sessions at. On this day I had planned 9 sessions that would happen back to back throughout the day. It is always high energy and lots of fun doing these type of sessions.
The first sessions was starting out great, until the kids started picking flowers. A German gentleman decided that he didn't like the kids picking the flowers near the pond, so he asked them to stop. Took the family a few minutes to understand what he was saying as none of us spoke that great of German. During another session, a random guy walking along the path came up to me in the middle of photographing another family, and asked how much a session was. I couldn't explain to him that sessions are booked weeks, even months out. Then during one of the last sessions, the guy that yelled at the kids for picking flowers, was still down around the pond fishing. I was telling the family just how the day was going, and walked by one of the paths that goes down to the pond, and saw the fisherman undressing. I had known that this particular site was known for people sunbathing and fishing in the nude. The German culture doesn't treat nudity the same as many other countries do. They just don't see it as something to hide or be ashamed of. Needless to say I decided to keep the rest of my sessions away from the pond and just use my two other locations.
Like I said it was a very fun and exciting day. I managed to bribe smiles from all the kids, and parents were very happy that their children cooperated. I am going to miss having days like this and being able to interact with the different culture while doing sessions. Here are just a few of my favorite images from each session.
