31 Days of Breastfeeding Journeys | Day 23 | World Breastfeeding Week 2016
" I was pregnant when I was 17 and had my first daughter, Debra, at 18. I breastfed her for 8 months. I was too shy to do it in public and I hated pumping, so I substituted formula with her quite often.

When she was 5, I had my second daughter, Alora. I exclusively breastfed her. I probably would have introduced formula if it weren't for my sister, Jessica. She helped and encouraged me to continue breastfeeding-- even in public. I successfully breast fed Alora for 3 years.

Something crazy happened when I was nursing Alora. I decided to breast feed her at a carnival, and it really upset a girl. She literally attempted to fight me during nursing because she was so offended by it... but her boyfriend ran up and threw her over his shoulder and left. I frequently got asked to cover up but this was the most extreme incident I ever experienced.

When Alora turned 4, I had another daughter named JamieLynn. I have been exclusively breastfeeding for over 9 months and see no end in sight. With my other daughters, I did not have much of a strong support system except from my sister, but now, everywhere I go, it seems like everyone is supportive and encouraging-- even strangers. I think breast feeding is finally starting to come around!" ~Tammi
